Founded in 1929 — JACL is the oldest and largest Asian American civil rights organization in the United States

Welcome to Houston JACL

The Japanese American Citizens League is a national organization whose ongoing mission is to secure and maintain the civil rights of Japanese Americans and all others who are victimized by injustice and bigotry.
About Us

Helping individuals
never doubt that their voices are
Valuable & Powerful

JACL’s Houston Chapter represents the entire state of Texas. We have been unafraid to take action on difficult and often controversial issues related to the wartime experience of our community and other civil rights issues. The exceptional pioneers who sustained our organization during one of the most difficult periods in US history laid a strong foundation for the work of future generations of Japanese Americans who strongly believe in the principles of justice, equality, and fair play.

Our Houston Chapter is back and reinvigorated. We are well prepared to carry on the legacy and proud traditions established by our noble and courageous predecessors. In solidarity, we strive to bring equality for not only our community but also many other communities who are unfortunately facing bigotry and injustice. Taught through the atrocities faced by our community, we will not allow other communities to endure similar circumstances.

Education
We host periodic educational and community-oriented programs to learn more about our history and also stay proactive regarding current issues. Stay in the loop by subscribing to Houston’s quarterly newsletter.
Youth
We value our next generation of leaders, offering youth members various scholarship opportunities.
Also, providing the chance to attend trips and events at the National level to become more involved.
Social Justice
Our history is extraordinary, having recorded JACL Members marching alongside MLK. To us, it is invaluable to carry our organizational legacy by working with a variety of communities, joining together in solidarity.
